Rob Bhalla reviews William W Fisher's book on digital content availability, Promises to Keep: technology, law and the future of entertainment. Fisher envisages a world where consumers have free access to digital content and actively modify and redistribute works. Overseeing this system would be a government body responsible for remunerating artists. The book is an interesting addition to the current debate and litigation surrounding peer-to-peer file sharing networks.
